Christmas in the Village.
This series is my love letter to the traditions, laughter, and unity that come alive in Igbo communities each December. Part of my broader project, Archiving Igbo Joy, this series follows my journey back to my village Amaeku, Adazi-Ani Anambra state, where Christmas is not just a holiday but a joyful reunion of family, friends, and community. This series is a nostalgic re-enactment of or searching for the feeling of joy and momentary peace I experienced as a child every Christmas.
In these images, I document the things that make an Igbo Christmas special. I document our elders sharing blessings, the lively village gatherings where stories are passed down, and the strength and wisdom, of our community’s matriarchs and patriarchs. This project is a celebration of the deep kinship that connects us all, and a tribute to the way we, as Igbos, carry joy, resilience, and the warmth of home wherever we go. Through Christmas in the Village, I hope to share the beauty and spirit of Igbo traditions that light up every December in Amaeku and Ogidi — my homes and heritage.
